HRM & Culinary Arts Students of ICI Displayed Their Exemplary Skills in Kumbira 2012 and Emerged Victorious

The Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) launched Kumbira 2012 with the theme: “It’s More Fun in Kumbira” last August 15-17 at the Atrium of Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City. The event was one of the highlights of the Kagay-an Festival. It has drawn-in a lot of participants and spectators from the entire Mindanao and its neighboring areas. Students of ICI HRM &Culinary Arts Department didn’t miss the chance to participate and compete in the event with the goal to display their newly-acquired skills and bring pride to ICI itself.

Competitions like Housekeeping, Cup Cake Decorating, Fruit and Vegetable Carving, Flairtending and Chef Wars were among the highlights during the 3-day event which amazed tourists and greatly helped in promoting the city’s tourism. A total of 40 different schools participated in every competition. It wasn’t easy for our fellow ICI students to compete with other students as their competitors were also the finest students in their respective schools. After all the competitions were done, most of the selected ICI contestants emerged victorious. The following are the names of ICI students who won in Kumbira 2012.

All the hard work of ICI HRM & Culinary Arts Department instructors and the competing students paid off. ICI has once again proved to everyone that it can produce competent students who can show their skills and talent in any given competition.


Iligan ICT Month DotA Tournament List of Winners

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Iligan Council celebrated its ICT Month this June. The month-long celebration had a series of events and competitions which were held in different educational institutions here in Iligan City.

One of the highlights in this month’s celebration is the Defense of the Ancients (DotA) Tournament. It was held at ICI-Annex 3 last June 16 from 9am to 5pm.  Different teams around Iligan and neighboring cities registered in this competition with the goal of being crowned as Iligan ICT Month DotA Champions.

ICI-Iligan Academic Head Mr. Jefferson Obial supervised the whole-day competition with the assistance of ICI Technical Support Specialist Mr. Allen Buhion. Teams matched wits with one another as they thought of different strategies to perform successful offense and defense, and ultimately destroy their enemy’s base.

After the day-long competition, team Crownsway emerged as Champion. Teams Dasmag and ICI-CDO DotAdicts were declared as 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up Winners. The awarding ceremony took place during yesterday’s ICT Forum which was held at MSU-IIT Mini-Theater. Each of the winning teams received a cash prize from Hon. Bayani Areola and the Iligan ICT Council. They were also given trophies sponsored by Mr. Haji Azis of XD.Net Café.

Arbil D. Ocutare Grabs 2nd Place in the Collegiate Statistics Essay Writing Contest at MSU-IIT

The Iligan City Statistical Coordinating Council (ICSCC) recently spearheads the 2nd Collegiate Statistics Essay Writing Contest on October 17, 2011 at the Department of College of Science and Mathematics, MSU-IIT. This contest is part of the activities for the 22nd National Statistics Month (NSM) and it’s in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics of MSU-IIT and Philippine Statistical Association –Iligan City Chapter. The theme of the essay writing contest is “Quality Social Protection Statistics for Focused Targeting: Improving Outcomes, Changing Lives “.

There are 18 participants with their coaches from different college and vocational schools in Iligan City who attend the contest including ICI. Three of all the representatives come from ICI namely: Sheena Pasigna and Arbil D. Ocutare from Programming Department and Shene Ann Joy Velez from the Multimedia Department. In addition to, one of ICI’s English teachers, Mr. Sean B. Boglosa prepares and assists the contestants.

Fortunately and as expected, the 2nd place award goes to Arbil D. Ocutare from ICI and the two other winners are captured by MSU-IIT’s contestants. Ocutare’s essay talks about the importance and value of statistics and the support of the public in improving and enhancing the quality and standards of statistics.   During the culmination of the event, he receives a certificate of appreciation and cash prize. Members of the Board of Judges who evaluate the write-ups are the renowned and competent professors from the College of Mathematics of MSU-IIT.

Since it’s the first time that ICI attains recognition in the field of essay writing contest, the management is very proud of another achievement gained.

Lourenz Grace Remetillo, Miss Supranational Philippines 2011: An ICI Graduate

One of ICI’s graduates of 2007 with course of Desktop Publishing, Ms. Lourenz Grace Remetillo was crowned the first MISS SUPRANATIONAL Philippines. She was the Miss ICI last 2007 and the first runner up winner of Miss Iligan pageant last 2010. She auditioned at SM City Cebu and emerged victorious. She will represent the Philippines in one of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant. The World Finale will be this August 26, 2011 at the city of Plock, Poland.

This event is recognized as one of the most highly professional beauty pageants around the world that is aired to different parts of the globe and comprised of international musicians and national stars.

ICI is truly proud of her and wishes her victory in this once in a lifetime oppurtunity to bring pride and glory to the country.

The ICI HRM Department Participates in CDO’s Kumbira 2011

ICI’s very own Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) Department goes to Cagayan de Oro City to participate in the annual Kumbira event last August 17-19, 2011. The goal of this event is to showcase different culinary skills as well as exceptional works of art from various schools.

Competitions such as Fruit and Vegetable Carving and Flair Bartending are there to amaze visitors and promote tourism in the city.

A total of 43 schools join the Fruit and Vegetable Carving competition and 20 schools in Flair Bartending including ICI. Participants like Abdul Nassef Poingan and Cyril Jumawan show their exemplary skills in the former competition and receive a diploma dubbed as The Filipino Carver. In addition to, Cherry Jane Calo and Marc Jgeson Carillo bags the Bronze Award in the latter competition. Loud cheers echoe around the places as they perform their bartending skills with accompanying music that amaze their audience.

This goes to show that in whatever competition there is, ICI will always stand out and prove to everyone that they are worthy to compete. The whole institution is proud of them and congratulates them whole-heartedly.
