ICI Palakasan 2011: Day 3

The final day of ICI’s Palakasan on September 7, 2011 at Miguel Sheker Children’s Park attracted even the most uninterested student to take part in it because it is the day for the championship games that could determine which department has the chance to be the overall champion this year and of course, there is the most-awaited event of the palakasan; the Cultural Night held at Iligan Capitol College (ICC) which began from 3 pm until 10 pm. Students patiently waited for this day because they expect to be entertained by the exceptional performances of their fellow students and be amazed by the display of beauty and intelligence from the Mr. and Ms. Palakasan 2011 candidates.

Navia also contributed a lot through managing paper works, communicating with game officials, event coordinators, and assisting Mr. Boglosa in preparing for the cultural night and other related tasks. There were also the SBO and Ping members, who voluntarily offered their services from day 1 to day 3 through preparing the place for participants, officiating games and resolving conflicts between participants.

At last, the gate opened and they quickly occupy the vacant seats. Excitement filled the air as the emcee; Mr. Gilson Jay M. Polutan welcomed everyone with warm greetings to begin the whole show. Then, he requested each spectator from different departments to yell with all their effort and cheer for their respective departments, and show their full support for them.

At the start of the music, the Mr. and Ms. ICI 2011 candidates walk to the stage and perform their production number which made the audience more excited. After that, the acoustic competition began. Students cheered for their bands and encouraged them to give their best. Each band displayed true talents by singing today’s popular songs. There was a soothing ambience and the audience can’t help themselves but to sing with them. They surely had a great time watching the show by giving the contestants a round of applause after every performance.

Thereafter, the candidates once again amaze the audience with the exposure of their street wear courtesy of Fashion Designer and Event Coordinator, Mr. Silver Montoya.

Shortly after that, everyone prepare themselves as the next competition is about to begin. The lyrical dance is a competition that depicts a story and emotion through dance. Dancers entertain the audience with their great dance moves and passion. Everyone seemingly held their breath with each move of the contestants.

After the lyrical dance, candidates walk to the stage. This time, ladies are dressed-up their cocktail attire while the gents in semi-formal wear.

Then, the judges give their scores to the tabulators and immediately the winners are announced.

The Mr. ICI 2011 is Mr. John Rey Pabate and the Ms. ICI 2011 is Ms. Maria Rizza Narona both from the Programming Department. Every hammerhead stood up to their seats and jumped for joy.

Then, it was the time for the announcement for the overall champion. All 4 departments have high hopes in winning this year but only 1 department must be hailed overall champion.

The Orange Hammerheads of the Programming Department emerge as overall champion for this year’s palakasan. It is their third consecutive victory over the past 3 years which began way back 2009. Students from the Programming Department proudly make their way to the stage to celebrate with their classmates and friends. Pictures are taken and they show their greatest smiles while they pose.

The Palakasan 2011 was a huge success thanks to the support and dedication of the executive committee and the organizers as well as the ICI organizations who gave effort for its success.
