Buwan ng Wika is an annual event for Filipinos to celebrate. It is to commemorate the significance of having our own lingua franca. Buwan ng Wika is not just about celebrating the Filipino Language; it had already been a cultural activity that shows the essence of being a Filipino. Thanks to the presence of the senior high school students, Iligan Computer Institute joined the celebration of “Buwan ng Wika” for the very first time.
The whole month celebration started with the Tawag Tanghalan audition held on the very first day of August until the third day at Annex 1 Library. It was followed by the Poster Making contest, the said contest revealed the hidden artistic talents of the students. The most artistic posters and the ones showing deep thoughts were displayed at the wall outside the faculty room. This catered the vibrant mood of the celebration.
Quiz Bee, one of the most enjoyed contest of the celebration was a battle of wit. At least three students from each of the blocks participated as a group. The 2-day battle thrilled the contenders and the facilitators. However, the contest gave more than thrills; it was fun, amusing and challenging, too. It also highlighted the most knowledgeable and were proclaimed as winners.
The sloganeers also have a place to fit in. The slogan making contest took part after the Quiz Bee . Every block was also required to display their Kakanin Products according to their allocated time and area. Traditional Filipino delicacies and some thirst-quenchers were displayed at a very affordable price. The students didn’t just enjoyed managing the food stand but they were also filled with the delicious kakanin products.
On August 26, 2016, at Rabago Park, Laro ng Lahi took place. All senior high students were there, cheering and were eager to dominate to win. The youthful juvenileness of the students was conspicuous as the event commenced. The hot weather though interrupted, attempted to ruin the energizing sensation that was felt by everybody. Traditional games were alive again and the feeling of being a Filipino overruled on us. Laro ng lahi was the most challenging and revitalizing event of the whole celebration of Buwan ng Wika.
On the last day of August, the most awaited Culmination has come. While the staffs were busy preparing the venue, the participants were also busy dressing up and conditioned their anxious minds. The opening remark was delivered by Mr. Ladislao Tabanao, the School President, followed by the OM’s Sabayang Pagbigkas. The Tawag Tanghalan participants gave their best at crooning and singing their part. Prolonging the agony of the Sayawit participants, the awarding of the Poster Making Contest was given first. At the moment the Sayawit competition started, everyone was ready to perform. After Sayawit was the awarding of the Quiz Bee and Slogan Making Contest winners. Thereafter, the Ethnic Dance Competition started. The performers were at their best with rich Filipino cultural dances they possessed. The most anticipated announcement of winners was delivered and IT1 took the 3rd place, PN in 2nd place and EIM as the over-all champion.
The whole month celebration of Buwan ng Wika wasn’t extremely stressful because of the help of some faculty members and the dasig Filipino club. Thanks to our beloved Ma’am Giann Gongob Onipa, who came up and led the celebration of Buwan ng Wika. Like she said, “Celebrating Buwan ng Wika is celebrating our freedom”. She doesn’t just give the students the chance to show their talents but also taught them the significance of celebrating Buwan ng Wika.
