To advocate the love for nature and promoting a healthier environment are some of ICI-CDO’s objectives. As we know our habitat today has become more contaminated due to improper garbage disposals, polluted air, and most of all the deforestation on rural areas.
To help counter these problems, ICI-CDO in cooperation with DENR CDO Chapter had a tree planting activity last October 12, 2013 with the theme “Plant more trees, save more lives”. Headed by the Student Body Organization (SBO), there were two teams working of different areas to plant seedlings of Golden Shower. The first team had their planting at Sugbongcogon, Tagoloan Misamis Oriental, while on the other hand, the second team worked at Upper Nangka, Villanueva Misamis Oriental.
Both teams started planting early in the morning. Faculty, staff and students worked hand-in-hand to plant. Participants brought their planting tools, towel, water and food to make themselves comfortable and hassle free. Before the planting started, everyone was oriented first on the proper way of plotting the Golden Shower seedlings and afterwards proceed to the field where the seedlings must be planted.
An average of 300 seedlings on each area were planted. Even though the sun is showing off and dirt from the soil was already on everyone’s hands, still they enjoyed seeing the seedlings they plotted and felt proud of it, for they know they have contributed on restoring the beauty of our environment.
