1.1  2018-2019 SBO with the Advisers (Sir Ronjie and Sir Junard)

“Leadership is a big ship followed by small ships.” Just recently, the students of Iligan Computer Institute heard and questioned the platforms of the different parties who aimed a position in the Students Body Organization. The three parties who have tried to please the students were SALIG party, KAAKBAY Party and ASTIG Party. The three had different strategies in campaigning their platform. ASTIG Party, headed by Jason Moncal, composed a song to entertain the viewers and introduced themselves. SALIG Party with their running president, Ms. Glenie Fe Bullanday, worn a green cloth on their backs to represent their party, lastly KAAGBAY party running President, Aldrin Cadayuna, just used their voices and presence during the campaign as a sign of simplicity.

All of them were tested on a debate.  The debate was facilitated by Mr. Junard Jumalon. The candidates were only given one minute to answer the question, 30 seconds for the rebuttal, and 30 seconds for their questions.

“Many are called, but few are chosen.” There will always be a winner and non-winner. During the two day election for the Student Body Organization, everyone waited for the result. Glenie Fe Bulanday was announced as the new head of the SBO and Elyza Sacabin is her other hand. Indeed, the institute would not be better if these two will be the only ruler. The 12 official senators were being chosen to serve the students and will be their shoulders to lean on.

These elected officers will be the big ships who will serve as models to be followed by the small ships, the students of this institute.

1.1 Sir Ladi during Coachella Acquaintance Party 2018

Another school year has opened for Iligan Computer Institute, and the new and old students were welcomed back to school, new experiences for instance, meeting new classmates and teachers. To add up to the excitement ICI’s Annual Acquaintance Party and General Assembly was held last August 15, 2018 at Paseo de Santiago, Canaway, Iligan City. The theme of the said event was “Coachella” – which highly matches the venue. Gates were opened at 12 noon for the registration and despite of the heat of the sun, students were able to join the party/event, which started at two o’clock in the afternoon. The event started with a prayer then followed by the singing of the National Anthem proceeded by an intermission number by some of the selected students from different departments.

Part of the program was the induction of the officers of GILAS Council, PING, and MSA (Muslim Students Association).  After which, an acoustic performance was given by some talented singers of ICI.  The program was hosted by Sir. Junard  Jumalon, while the GILAS officers supervised and organized the annual event

The Ms. Q & A was the main highlight of the event. The introduction of the 16 lovely candidates made the crowd more excited as they called out for their favorite candidate. The determination to win and to give people enjoyment was seen in the faces of the candidates. After the introduction the second appearance was wearing the Coachella outfit and once again the crowd went wild. Then there was the Question and Answer Portion, each candidate were asked with different funny questions. The preliminary question and answer portion was followed by the long gown competition. They all looked sophisticated with the way they walked and worn the gowns. They walked with such elegance that the audience just stared and be amazed at how the candidates showed feminism. The announcement of winners came shortly.  But the tension was not yet over because the announcement for the Top 6 came after. The first candidate being called was candidate #11, followed by candidate #16, then #3, #8 and #10. 1 spot left and nervousness was really evident in the faces of the remaining candidate. However, that last spot belonged to candidate #12. The final blow was the debate round. In this round, each candidate will be given a chance to defend their answer with another candidate. The first question was debated by candidate #8 and #3. The question was “Kung may digmaan, sino ang mananalo, daga o ipis?” Candidate #8 chose to defend the “Ipis” while candidate #3 defended the “daga.” The second question was for candidate #10 and #16. Their question was “Ano ang mas pagtuunan ng pansin, edukasyon o kalusugan?” Candidate #16 defended “kalusugan” while candidate #10 on the other way around. Lastly, the question was “Sino ang tunay na lalaki, ang lalaking umiiyak o ang lalaking nananapak?” This was debated by candidate #11 and #12. Candidate #12’s bet was “umiiyak” and candidate number 11 was “nanapak.”

When this round ended, dinner was served because most of the students were already starving. After the dinner, the 6 candidates were asked to return on stage for the announcement of the winners. Below are the final list of winners for Miss Q and A:

It was indeed a successful event as evident by the smile and laughter of those who participated in the event especially for the students.  During the party, there were lucky winners who won the minor and major awards.  This was one of the most stimulating part of the event in order to keep the students all throughout the occasion.

                                                                1.1 Fashion show

It was a night to remember for the Hotel and Restaurant Services Regular students of Iligan Computer Institute when they culminated the Personality Development or simply the Per. Dev. Fashion show 2k18 last August 3, 2018 in ICI Annex 1 Activity Center, headed by their adviser, Mr. Achilles Adlawan. The theme “Building Self Confidence through Fashion Show Exposure” was to enhance or develop the students’ self-confidence.

The event was judged by the 3 ICI Faculty: Mr. Kean Tinggas, Mr. Mark Saura, and Mr. Jerrum Suaring. The fashion-show was composed of 18 candidates: 10 girls and 8 boys. It was divided into four category: The Denim wear, Sports Attire, Casual Attire and the hottest part of the event The Summer wear.

Everyone was totally fascinated by the show and even enjoyed it and as for the candidates, they tried and exerted their efforts in the said event. They savored the moment and the opportunity given to expose them in a bigger crowd. The audience cheered for their bet and as the show went to a halt, the judges were requested to do a sample walk like a model. The crowd was quite thrilled and witnessed how the three Judges entertained and, of course, with the inclusion by their one and only, Mr. Achi – “The Pogi” (as he fondly called by his students) as requested by the HRS students and the audience.

The announcement of winners came. The crowd cheered and shouted for their different candidate. As if the drum rolls making the event was little bit suspense. Candidates #8 Ms. Naldoza and #2 Mr. Juntilo got the best in Denim Wear. Both Ms. Yaun (#5) and Mr. Pialan (#5) got the best in Sports and Casual attire.  Again, Ms. Yaun got the best in Summer Wear, who was also declared as the Crowd Favorite, HRS Fashionista and the Model of the Year. While for boys, Mr. Dalumpines #4 got the best in summer wear, Mr. Sarbelita (#3) and Ms. Guzman (#1) for girls got the best in Catwalk. The Crowd Favorite for the boys was candidate #8.

Everyone was stunned by the results of the event and it was indeed a successful one. It was really a great night to remember for everyone especially to the HRS Regular Students and that said event deserves a double thumbs up!

                1.1 New Pingsters

Iligan Computer Institute welcomed another school year with its new batch of students as the school unfolds another year. PING Iligan welcomed another batch of writers who were chosen through their works and capacities.  PING is ICI’s official publication, managed by the ICI students. They cover ICI related events and write either news or features inside and outside the school premises.

The chosen members of PING have different personalities united by similar purpose which is to feature ICI’s school events especially the students’ life inside the campus but the greatest challenge on the new member was “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing” a quote from Benjamin Franklin. Truly, anyone could write but it takes talent and determination to make people read and enjoy what they are reading and as for the PING members they accepted the challenge.

           1.1 Students Mirroring Activity

With ICI SHS program, a Recollection ala “Kaibigan” was launched on March 19 & 20, 2018, at Annex 2.  The “Kaibigian” program is coined for “Kaibigan mo ang Sarili mo, Kaibigan mo ang Pamilya mo, Kaibigan mo ang Landas ng Karera mo, Kaibigan mo ang Kaibigan mo”.  The objectives were to reflect within themselves of who they are, what are their purposes in life and enhance relationship amongst their significant others and friends.

Activity 1 – Who is that image in the mirror? Or Sino ako?  This activity provided them a chance to relate, to inform, to advice, to instruct, to wish, to hope, to express in relation with the image they saw in the mirror.  Most of them revealed the positive as well as the negative aspects of the reflections.

Activity 2 –  The glass was used in order to liken themselves in discovering what they wanted to pursue in life.  Most of them expressed to continue a course to study; identified what are the characteristics one needs to fill in the glass to help one on the path one may take.

Activity 3 –  It started with reading a message from their significant others.  Some students shared the wishes, the hopes, the expectation as well as the support their significant others wrote.   Some students also gave their friendly messages to each other.  As they rewrote their “Smart Goal”, the students also wrote to express various kind of support they needed from their significant others in order to help them to work out and achieved the goal they set.

Activity 4 – The Mirroring activity provided a personal conversation, an information, an impression, an opinion but not in a confrontational way.  The objective of the activity was to let the other person know how their relationship been built up in times or how their relationship has been tainted with jealousy and deceits.  There is a need to resolve the issues in order not to continue bringing nasty grudges upon leaving ICI.

Fortunately, after the session ended, most of the students were relieved and grateful of recovering trust from a friend who lost it along the way.  After all it is never wrong to do what is right.
